Thanksgiving Recipe Roundup

Chloe GordonComment

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and it’s making me think about how fast these past few months have flown by. I mean, March seems like it was ten years ago, but July?? I swear it was just July fourth, like, yesterday. Since Thanksgiving is sneaking up on us faster than you can say “green bean casserole” I’ve decided to help you out in compiling a list of recipes that are bound to be a hit. I’m sure you have your ride or die recipes that your family makes every year, for us, it’s the stuffing and sweet potato casserole, but maybe this year you want to try something new out for those Friendsgiving festivities or smaller scale Thanksgiving dinners you’re having this year — I, for one, am going to miss my great aunt’s cranberry sauce. So good.

You can thank me later, or just say you’re thankful for this blog when you’re going around the table saying what you’re thankful for. Word of mouth advertising is what I’m going for here. Kidding…. kind of.

I’ve categorized the links based on the type of dish it is, but if you need me to point you in the direction of something specific, don’t hesitate to leave a comment! I’m no chef or recipe master so they’re all links to outside sources. Sharing the love! Some recipes might be classic Thanksgiving dishes and some might be a little different spin on Thanksgiving foods. Thanksgiving is all about appeasing the masses and staying away from politics, right? Right! Also, please note, I tried to list everything that seemed do-able for me. And I’m not a chef. I burn all pans and most foods, but these items all looked like something even I could manage. That being said, I’ve only shared sides and desserts. Turkey is something I just know I would never be able to manage alone.

DRINKS

Whew! That should at least cover a few of your bases. I’m not sure what I’ll be cooking this year, but I’m sure I’ll use this post as a toolkit if I need a few recipes handy. If you’re more in charge of the table scape and place settings than the actual cooking (aka me) I’ve linked a few cute items that I’m inspired by below.

That’s all for now! Stay tuned for Thanksgiving outfit ideas coming soon!

Veganism

RANDOM STUFFChloe GordonComment

My schedule this semester is pretty weird. I have no classes Mondays, which is absolutely amazing, and only one class on Fridays.

As great as it is to have one class on Fridays, it happens to be during the prime dinner hours — 5 till 7:30pm. It’s awesome because I get to sleep in, but also super annoying because I’m sitting in class while all my friends are enjoying eating a nice fancy dinner at nice restaurants.

This past Friday my friends decided they wanted to continue their healthy streak and decided to go to a vegan restaurant that none of them had ever tried before. I was a little jealous so I asked them to bring me my food home so I could eat it when I got back from class.

I left for my class when all my friends left for the restaurant, and I spent the next two and a half hours thinking about how much fun they were all having while I was stuck in a dull classroom on a Friday night. As I was walking home, I felt my stomach eating itself — I was literally starved. The first thing I did when I got home was run up to my room to drop off my backpack so I could eat my delicious vegan dinner as soon as possible.

What did I see when I walked into my room? My two roommates literally rolling on the floor moaning in pain, sweat dripping down their foreheads, hands clenching their stomachs. They were in physical and emotional pain. Why? Because of the vegan food. Vegan food poisoning.

It was like the bridesmaids scene when all the characters (except one) get food poisoning. It was bad news. I’m not kidding when I say that I stood in the doorway in shock, convinced that a prank was being pulled on me. I ended up being too afraid to eat my food and ate three and a half pieces of toast with cream cheese instead. Not the most fulfilling meal, but definitely better than rolling on the floor in absolute pain.

Moral of the story? Never eat vegan food.

Graphic Design Final

RANDOM STUFFChloe GordonComment

I’m a pun aficionado. If you follow us on Instagram then you already know this, but I went (and am still kind of going through) a phase where every single caption had a pun about the picture posted.  I think I like puns so much because they make people smile and roll their eyes all in one. I like them so much that sometimes I find myself watching hours and hours of pun battles on YouTube. You say nerd, I say clever nerd.

Anyway, I took graphic design this past year and for our class final we had to create a series. This series could be absolutely anything. Our teacher gave us a few starting ideas but there were no rules except for each piece in the series had to be cohesive. I decided to take my love of puns and use that to inspire me for my project. We had to use something that we learned during the year, and I learned how to create these drawn graphics from an image. Originally I was going to make recipe cards, but I soon realized that that idea would take way more time than I had.

I just thought they were fun and quirky and that maybe you would wanna see them! Let me know what you think!
