Closet Basics: A Guide to the best t-shirts

FASHIONKim & Chloe

As you probably can tell from my fashion posts, I'm a true believer that you can sport a tee with almost any outfit, from dressy to comfortable and everything in-between. When I think about pulling out an outfit for the day, it's typically jeans and tee. Then building an outfit from there with layers and accessories. Finding the best t-shirts, however, can be like a treasure hunt… about on par with scoring the perfect pair of jeans. So we asked around and we're sharing our faves (and yours) based on durability, cost, comfort and either personal knowledge or recommendations.

Everlane - there is no love like a brand new one and for that reason Everlane's at the top of my list (and Chloe's). I'm head over heels for the price, quality, selection. If you like slouchy, boxy or fitted, they've got it. I'll be saving lots of money thanks to Everlane since I'll be stocking tees for the whole family from them. My personal fave is the u-neck with its body skimming fabric and just right length.

All the tees by Madewell are outstanding, but this v-neck slouchy tee is looking like a winner. I'm consistently pleased with the quality and durability of their tees.

Alexander Wang classic pocket tee  A cult classic for a reason and although it says hand wash or dry-clean, I wash mine on delicate and haven't had a problem.

J.Crew tees You can't go wrong with any of them, but when I have to pick, I prefer the perfect fit for a close fit, the vintage cotton, and the linen v-neck for a lightweight summer tee.

Free People keep me tee - a true boyfriend, very oversized (size down) heather tee that I've been told is perfect for those sporty weekends or lounging days. Or maybe working at home. Just saying.

Helmut Lang Kinetic Jersey tee - I haven't tried this modal mix, but I love the longer hem in the front! Let's face it, skinny jeans are great for skinny days, but there are some days when when a t-shirt with a shirttail hem in front would give more flair than "I'm wearing my husband's t-shirt." Not that there's anything wrong with that.
