First Love

Shhh, my husband thinks it’s him, but my first love (besides fashion) was Tex. Yep, Tex. He was rugged, handsome, from Texas, and was most definitely a free spirit. Tex was in my life for a few years, and although we had our highest of highs and lowest of lows, he left me absolutely broken-hearted. I haven’t loved another horse since him. As anyone who’s had a horse as a teen, or perhaps as an adult, you know what I mean when I talk about my horse as my first love. I had an entire scrapbook dedicated to him, my life revolved around him, and I was most definitely obsessed. I do believe he was too, but I think the adage the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach probably applied to Tex.

Luckily, my relationships with men were a lot healthier {for the most part :) ) but I miss riding so much that it feels like a part of my heart is still missing. So when Erin, our “in the know” photographer, mentioned a lot of her engagement shoots take place at Blackacre, a horse farm, Chloe and I knew we had to check it out. All I needed was a Mint Julep Bourbon Slush in my hands to make it a complete Derby weekend.

When one of the horses that was tied up got loose, I kept him company while Erin shot a few impromptu photos and Chloe found the owner. All in a hard day’s work. There is joy on my face, comfort in my soul, and my heart always heals a little around horses.

This is going to be my daughter. She’s my horse lover.

This is such a great look. That red lip looks wonderful on you.

Thoughtful and moving post Kim! Thank you! It could very well just be me, but the font on your blog posts is challenging to read. Again, it could be me, or my computer, but I thought I would let you know. xo

Sue, thank you for your honest comment! I’d love to hear if it’s the font or the color or the size. Much appreciated!!!

  • http://www.popcosmo.com/ PopCosmo

Oh that’s so exciting, and you’re lucky to be able to watch it through her eyes. Lucky her… and lucky you!!! And thanks for the compliment on the lipstick - my daughter and I were just talking to day about my lipstick obsession!

Kim! Well, I called my husband over to the computer to help me describe what I was seeing. He said that it appears that the lines are not as high as the font, and so it is cutting off the font…the tops of the words in your blog posts are a little bit cut-off. He zoomed in to 110% and I can read it perfectly clearly. So! He’s clever! And, if no one else has this little oddity on their screens, I know just to zoom your posts in a bit!

Smart hubbie! However, if ours is the only that is causing such a problem then we might need to change the font because I doubt you are the only one having a problem. Thanks again for letting us know!

  • Laurie

Font appears strange on my screen too. I thought I was just me!

Love the picture of you and the horse. You look so peaceful!

What a charming post, Kim. I find animals so therapeutic too. Love your look, with red lips and that fab necklace. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday.

Yes, it’s only been on your blog that I see this, and it’s only on the blog post itself…comments, sidebar, etc., are fine. My browser is Chrome…not sure if that makes a difference at all…I’m so not techie.

Love your accessories - and I have shoes that are very similar, so I obviously like those :) Horses are one of my favorite animals - so smart and beautiful. Have a great week!

So glad you both spoke (wrote) up!! So helpful and we love an honest critique when it will make us better. Thank you, thank you! All updated… and I’m sure countless others were having the same problem!

I hope to one day! I was taking care of a friend’s horse a few years ago, but it just wasn’t the same as having my own. Kind of like walking someone else’s dog….

Thank you, I wish I could take credit, but that is all the magic of Erin, our photographer. She found the perfect location and she had a brand new camera + her magic eye! She really is amazing.

You look beautiful … and one can rarely say that to a woman anywhere near a horse-barn and mean it with no reservations. But you do look gorgeous. I really envy your ability to wear that beautiful red lippy … I look mean and thin lipped.
I miss Doll (Little Doll Highstep) every single day. Our older mares that are left in the pasture are some comfort, and they are all special in their way, but I know exactly what you mean about your special horse.

And me … how about just a little larger size, same font? I really like the elegance of the font, it’s just pale and tiny on my screen. I see you changed it, but it looks the same here. Hmmmm…

What great photos and outfit! I love your goyard bag - I like how your is a more unique shape/style than the popular goyard tote.

  • cherie james (stylenudge.com)

You look fab, as usual. I like to read your blogs, because I feel like I am with you in person:) The pic of the peonies makes me miss KY just a little…we don’t have those in Santa Fe.

Wish you were here… but I’m visiting - SOON!!!

  • http://www.popcosmo.com/ PopCosmo

Jan, I seriously doubt that about the red lipstick! You should try a few different colors. I’m a believer in the power of red lipstick :) So glad you understand about Tex… at first I hesitated to publish!!!

There is a lot to love in this post… You and your love for horses (a horse girl eh??), the bag, the necklace, the casually tucked-in-only-one-side blouse, the bright belt (I never think of such things while they hang in my closet) and …. The necklace!! I am a huge necklace fan and this one is Pretty!!
