Double Take: David Kind

You all know how much I love my glasses… they’re a daily accessory. When my beloved pair of tortoiseshell progressive lenses broke recently, I almost cried. Glasses wearers understand: finding the right pair is akin to the holy grail of jeans. I’m putting my best face forward so style is key, but so is finding a sturdy pair that doesn’t slip and having a lens with progressives. The trifecta. So when they broke, I whimpered a little and whined a lot. I even thought about super-gluing them back together or doing the geek tape thing (fitting for me). Instead, I’d been wearing my lovely clear glasses, which I adore, but I spent a lot of time taking them on & off, on & off, so I could see near & far.

But I have on gorgeous new tortoiseshell lenses — I’ve been rescued by a very kind David Kind.

glasses: David Kind (c/o) | sweater: Nordstroms (similar)| pants Joe Fresh (similar) | shoes: amazing store in Brooklyn I don’t recall (similar) | purse: Goyard

Imagine if someone said to you, “Don’t worry about shopping for glasses anymore, I’ll look at your face shape, you tell me the colors you like, and I’ll pick 6 pairs for you to try on… at home.” A glasses fairy godmother, if you will.

And that’s what David Kind is. When they approached me about trying out their glasses, I hesitated {another online glasses retailer, hmmm}. But after checking them out, I did a double take: the founders had impressive backgrounds and they picked glasses for my face shape. No more guesswork: I worked directly with an expert stylist online (by email, who was also willing to Skype once I had my glasses) who curated a selection of 6 pairs (it bears repeating) to try on! If I hadn’t been happy with them, she would have sent me 6 more. Plus their lenses are high definition lenses - the kind I typically pay over $400 for in a boutique (not the $99 quality you typically get online). Trust me, the quality is apparent from the second you start working with David Kind - I even wanted to keep the exquisite cork try-on case for my glasses & sunglasses collection!

Not only are they fairy godmothers, but I kinda feel like Cinderella (after fitting in the glass slipper… er, glasses). The service was incredible: attentive, but not overbearing; concerned, but not pushy. Just right.

So what do you think of my new glasses??

I understand perfectly.. I wear glasses myself and I hate contacts, wear them only if I really must.

I think your stylist needs a raise! Seriously, they are incredibly flattering and I will definitely keep this in mind later this year when I replace my own glasses. PS - I can’t Google “amazing store in Brooklyn” to find those gorgeous shoes ;-)

I think they look very good on you. And I know how you felt when your old pair broke. I hate trying to find new glasses which suit me. I found 1 pair (one!!) after years and years of searching. As I wear contact lenses, I had reading glasses put in them. So I can read for a longer time with my reading glasses (more restful for my eyes). The optician said: isn’t it a bit of waist to just use them as reading glasses? .. Heck no, I want to look nice when I am reading too.
Now… how about having another pair to change from time to time. As you do with outfits? They are a highly visible factor in your outfit. And… you have an extra pair when you lose the other. Or sit on it. Or break it because it slips from your hand. To name a few events that might happen.
And your outfit looks great too. Let’s not forget that.

I like your glasses alot! I think black glasses look very good on ladies with dark hair. I also want , or should I say love the red shoes!! I am trying to broaden my shoe miniscule collection, as due to my disease, I can’t wear high heels ,but espradrilles and shorter wedges may be possible. Love.

The glasses are interesting, of course, but damn, girl, your outfit is fabulous beneath it. Very prep until you get down to those killer shoes! Sleek, head to toe.
