What are my colors?

I made a new discovery this past year, and it’s one that has started to change my wardrobe. Completely. I can wear camel. I know, I know - not exactly earth shattering, but I always thought blondes had more fun, at least when it came to wearing the color camel. But not any more! Chloe and I were shopping and she said “try this, it’ll look good on you” and handed me something camel. You see, when it comes to colors, we are the exact opposites. She’s like a color “rainman” (as in the movie, as in genius). Which does make me question how Chloe came into being… she has this uncanny ability to look at a color 1x then walk in a paint store and pick the exact color. Not close, not “in the family,” but the exact color. (True story - she did this when I forgot paint chips and I was too lazy far away to turn home and go get them.) And she can tell you the undertones. I can’t even tell you what an undertone is, except a conspiracy to frustrate me.

I think her brain actually functions in colors, while I’m color-challenged. Pink is pink is pink (etc. with all the colors). And black is sometime navy and vice-versa. Which makes me thrilled that the rest of the world is finally wearing them together too, since I’ve accidentally been wearing black & navy together for years. But camel was always off limits for me because I’d been told it made me look sallow or yellow or just “sickly.” As much as I love a good classic, I do tend avoid an unhealthy look. So, you’ll probably be seeing a lot of camel on me this fall and winter, along with my usual black and white. Woo-hoo, I’m branching out!

How about you, have you been trying any new trends or colors lately?

I’ve always thought blondes look washed out in creams, beiges, and camel colors. My hair changes too much to keep up- if I feel too monochromatic I add a bright scarf and call it a day. You look great, not sickly at all! My little is a great shopping buddy too. They keep us “cool.”

Thank you so much for dropping by my blog and taking the time to leave such a positive comment! I’m so happy to visit yours - I LOVE your style! Your camel with white plus dark hair and gold accents are just perfection! Um I wear a lot of camel :-) It’s one of my fav. colours. You’re lucky to have such a colour genius for a daughter, that me smile :-) And yeah, I wear back and navy together accidently and on purpose :-) This year, I’ve been trying to add brights to my classics colour palette.

Kim you look fab in this colour, I am glad that Chloe picked it out for you :) It goes perfectly with your accessories and those booties you have on are to die for! Hope you are both well!

I’m a lot like Chloe in the color department. It drives my husband crazy!
I love the sweater on you. There are “shades” of camel and I’ve had the same misgivings as you about wearing any of them. Perhaps I need to revisit them because it’s a great color against your skin!

Camel looks absolutely beautiful on you:) In fact this outfit just oozes modern sophistication.

Sounds like Chloe has the gift of seeing color. Understanding color is hard to teach and I do think it just plain is a gift of how the brain works. It must be fun to do a blog with your daughter!

Camel and white look beautiful on you! I agree with Deborah this outfit oozes modern sophistication and the boots add just the right amount of sparkle.

I love beige and pairing it with white is a classy option. I also love it with black, navy or burgundy this season. And it goes so well with golden jewellery.
You look great, Kim! Going shopping with our daughters is a good idea :-)

Funny you should post this, as just on the wkend, I went to a Jockey (ladies clothing) party and bought pants in the camel colour. (They call it Moccasin brown.) Either way, like you, it is not a colour I gravitate to. But others were ooing and awing over it, and as I am trying to expand my wardrobe of things that go with brown (because I am now the Queen of Chocolate) I bought that colour, as well as an Express Coffee legging (which is a really dark brown. So now … when I do my chocolate events and book signings, people will automatically relate my face to chocolate.

Kim, I think you totally have the coloring to wear camel. Oh, those boots!!!

I stick to black, grey, beige and white for the most part. Boring, I know. But I love black. Love it.

I’m like you when it comes to colors, and my husband - a painter by profession - is like Chloe. I am SO envious of them!

Oh, yes you can! So cool, so chic, so handy to have a daughter to pick your colors for you! You dress yourself beautifully, of course, but it’s always nice to have a knowledgeable color-stylist on staff! This warm neutral is for everyone, I think, and there there are shades within the spectrum.
You look quite lovely and very of the moment!

It is posts like this that can make me regret I have not got children. Which is stupid, as mine would probably hate shopping, clothes and colours haha. Please benefit from her gift.
And don’t forget you have also put a powerful necklace in gold in between your camel and your face.
I will admit, this outfit is gorgeous.

I’m working on brights… camel is bright, right?? haha!

  • http://www.popcosmo.com/ PopCosmo

wait, there are shades of camel. Oh no… now I have to figure out which ones work! This is why black and white are so easy :)

  • http://www.popcosmo.com/ PopCosmo

I’m wondering if that necklace did change the camel?

great colors. Chloe loves teal - for years it was all she wore. Now her room is teal. I guess we all have our “colors! Mine are definitely red, black white and… camel. Just didn’t know I could wear them :)

I have no idea. I am the last persn to ask. Clueless haha. It just popped in my mind as I have a top in that shade which I can only wear because of the necklaces I use with it.

My goodness! I feel I haven’t been by in such a long time! It’s like running into a friend from college at the grocery store haha.

I’ve been so into olive and burgundy this fall. I feel like I’ve just been wearing the colors in different combos.

I do love this neutral look! It suits you well!
