Patterned Pants

These pants were a big leap for me… last year. I’m not a huge pattern person, but I needed a new outfit in a hurry and these pants just spoke to me. And now I wear them all the time. Do you ever have that happen to you? You’re not expecting to buy something out of your comfort range and BAM, something strikes your fancy and then it becomes “part” of you? Since buying these pants, more and more color started creeping into my wardrobe. I’ve started craving color & it’s becoming a habit to brighten my outfit, which also brightens my day.

I liken this new color habit to the change in our taste buds (silly, but bear with me). Isn’t it every 7 years we develop new tastes? Fashion is a taste and, well, I’m on a new fashion kick. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older and starting down that hill towards 50 (and we all know going downhill is much more fun than going uphill)! Or maybe it’s like my newfound love of spicy food and zesty guys (only in the zesty ads though, hubby comes first). Perhaps… and just go with the flow here for a minute… perhaps our fashion tastes change every 7 years or so just like our taste buds do. Not convinced? Hmmm, me neither actually. But it is something worth considering when I look back at some questionable choices I made over the years!

I do still prefer simple cuts, classic shapes, and excellent fit. They are what crave when I don’t know what to wear. Throw in few trendy styles a season and fabulous shoes, and I’m set. However, I’m playing with patterns + color lately. Lots of them. And last night, I ate jalapenos. Things are getting wild and hot around here. And I’m not hearing any complaints. :)

Have your styles changed over the years - to get wilder or tamer?

Haha, I’ll blame your new love for wild patterns on the zesty guy ;-)

Gorgeous prints and it’s all about the styling. And that’s perfect for sure!
    Love this look on you.

Definitely crazier…with pattern mixing being a fun thing I love to do now that I never did before. Love your going downhill is more fun comment. I may have to use that! :) Isn’t it interesting how an original piece like those pants becomes something you reach for again and again? I’ve had the same thing happen with glasses. I’ll always put on a bold, weird pattern and then ask my mom, “What do you think of these?” …and then I end up walking out with them! Debbie @ ilovemylemonadelife.com

This look is poppin’! : )

I’ve always been a bold colour/ pattern lover. It isn’t going away as I age either. Thankfully

I don’t know that my tastes have changed per se… Though I will say that I wear more of what makes me happy as I age, rather than just what’s in style. :) Love those JCrew pants on you!

Your new found boldness is amazing, I think its a good thing you ventured out. These pants look wonderful on you, love what you paired them with. I’ve always been found of bold colors and pattern mixing, although I do agree with the 7 year theory. I have found myself dressing in what pleases me and not what pleases the advertizers.

Gorgeous outfit! I love the colors and pattern of those pants! I’d have to say my style is getting wilder. The first time I wore a studded leather cuff I felt so…rebellious!

Adorable print and texture, I love the little boldness of the outfit, it makes quite a statement and the touch of Neon ads something really quirky to the ensemble!
Thanks for stopping by on my blog, I will gladly follow you as your style certainly serves as encouragement to my new colour adventure in progress!

Those pants are amazing! I love bright, fun prints. Even though I’m only in my 20′s my style has evolved from boring neutrals (aka whatever was clean and semi-unwrinkled) to fun colors and prints. Part of it for me was developing a style of my own. (Which is what I ended up calling my blog!)

Love the outfit. The pants are awesome and can be worn with so many colors and styled shirts. Great mixing of textures.

Coolest pants, and you look great. Very sleek and modern. Good style for your classic tastes! I’ve been looking for a similar print and style, but so far, none here. I want a smallish geometric print like yours, but what I’m seeing is way larger than what I’d like. I’m “on quest” now.

When we moved here, a couple of decades ago, almost, I dressed from Walmart and the feed store. You can do it, but not well. In the last few years, I’ve stepped up my work wardrobe at the pub to reflect a tone I’d like set. And yes, I’ve tried to adapt more trends to my age, because there’s little else available in the Big City here. It’s been good for me, and like the best things in life, has taught me to know myself better. That’s caused me to dress more consciously, and that’s led to my blogging about it because I think more about it. I’m not sure about 7 years, but after 60 is when the fun begins, Grasshopper!

I can’t wait to see how your quest ends! I saw some really cute small prints in J.Crew, Gap, H&M, Forever 21….

Glasses are SUCH a fun accessory! I’ve been using mine that way too - and it’s so funny, as a kid I would wear mine as little as possible. Times change :)

The pants look great! I bought some similar ones from H&M and I love them. They’re very fun and I always get lots of compliments. :)
